Sŵn Festival

Running for a long weekend in mid-October, this is a city festival built entirely around Cardiff's grassroots venues, with a single wristband giving access to venues clustered on and around Womanby Street and stretching out to Tramshed and St John's Church. The programme leans hard into new and emerging music, drawing heavily on Welsh-language and homegrown talent alongside national and international names across indie, rock, folk, electronic and pop. Sets run short and venues sit close together, so the weekend is as much about walking between rooms and taking a chance on unfamiliar names as it is about seeing anyone in particular. Founded in 2007 and run by the Clwb Ifor Bach team, it forms part of the wider Cardiff Music City programme. It tends to suit those who enjoy discovering artists early and moving freely between small rooms.
