Bromyard Folk Festival

Held in a Herefordshire market town each September, this is a gathering rooted firmly in the traditional folk world rather than the festival-as-spectacle model. The weekend spreads across the Broadbridge site and the town itself, with concerts, ceilidhs, workshops, singarounds and morris and clog dancing filling marquees, halls and street corners. Programming leans heavily on acoustic and traditional music, with space for world and roots performers alongside established folk names and younger players keeping the tradition going. The atmosphere is unhurried and participatory, and a good deal of the appeal lies in joining in rather than watching from a distance. Children under ten attend free and family camping is part of the setup, which gives the event a multi-generational feel. It tends to suit those drawn to traditional folk, social dancing and hands-on workshops rather than headline-driven lineups.
